Is Mowing the Lawn Causing you Back Pain?
The sun is shining, and the grass is growing! Each summer numerous people come into the Illinois Back Institute complaining of injuring their backs while trying to get their lawn mowers started, dumping the bag of clippings or from long sessions using the string trimmer. For every degree your head comes forward, you add 10 pounds of weight to your lower back.
How can we prevent back pain when mowing the lawn? Make sure to stretch before you start any work by bending forward, backward, left and right. Do your best to maintain a good posture. Take frequent breaks rather than trying to do the whole job all at once. If all else fails hire a neighborhood kid who is looking to make some extra cash over the summer.
